It don't get any better than that. The lack of IS on the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM (B & H $1,799.00) should not be a concern. The Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art Lens has a 10.2" (260mm) minimum focus distance that, at 24mm, delivers a 0.19x maximum magnification. The 0.19x spec is a very strong one for lenses including a wider-than-16mm focal length, though the spec is only mediocre among lenses overall. Summary: This Canon L 17-35mm f2.8 lens has been highly reliable and takes pictures with an excellent look. Though the newer versions apparently test sharper, this lens produces excellent wide angle photos on my Canon R and focuses very accurately. Used they are an excellent value. While light and small, the 28 IS feels solidly built. The barrel is made of an engineering plastic that has a nice quality feel to it. Plastic is light - light is an often-desired lens characteristic. However, within a couple of days of using the 14mm L II, my mind was changed. Like all Canon L Series Lenses, the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens has a high build quality that feels great in use. The non-extending 3.1" x 3.7" (80mm x 90mm) (dxl) size and 22.7 oz (645g) weight combine to make this a very a nice handling lens.
